Last night was the Opening of the Adelaide annual 3 week Fringe Festival held in the Park Lands just metres from the busy Rundle Street.
Thousands of people converged into the city for the free opening spectacular.
Adelaide Fringe is Australia’s largest arts festival.
Originating in 1960 as a movement of artists who performed and operated outside the main Adelaide Festival of Arts program, but during the festival time frame, the Fringe has grown over the years to become one of South Australia’s most loved events.
Adelaide Fringe 2007 represents the first annual Fringe and will run from 8 to 31 March 2007, with new Fringe Director Christie Anthoney at the helm. From there on, audiences can enjoy the Fringe annually.
In 2006 audiences exceeding 900,000 flocked to Adelaide to experience the unique, energetic atmosphere that is “The Fringe”. For 24 days and nights they were treated with a diverse program of music, theatre, dance, circus, spoken word, poetry, comedy, physical theatre, film and video, cross art form, new media and visual arts from some of the finest independent artists from Australia and overseas.
Adelaide Fringe 2007 will run from Thursday 8 March to Saturday 31 March 2007.
