We're In The CLEAR !

Poland's child rights ombudsman says she no longer suspects The Teletubbies, the British television show for infants, of promoting homosexuality.

Ewa Sowinska, who had earlier announced her suspicions about the Teletubby named Tinky Winky, said that her fears had been allayed by an expert.

"The opinion of a leading sexologist, who maintained that this series has no negative effects on a child's psychology, is perfectly credible," she said in a statement today.

"As a result I have decided that it is no longer necessary to seek the opinion of other psychologists."

David Hyde Pierce Makes It Official: He’s Gay

Given his years of using the old ‘I don’t talk about my personal life’ line, it should come as no surprise that Frasier alum David Hyde Pierce’s first official declaration that he’s gay was not by press release or calculated announcement, but via a sly name drop that named the Emmy winning star's partner.

In an interview with CNN.com to promote his Tony nominated turn in the Broadway musical Curtains, the writer makes reference to Pierce’s partner Brian Hargrove, an actor-writer-producer he relocated to Los Angeles with when Hargrove wanted to give writing for television a shot.

The mention is buried a good twelve paragraphs into the story—in fact, it’s so casual, editors at AfterElton.com contacted Pierce’s representation to confirm it wasn’t just a misprint.

HIV on Rise in Hong Kong

HIV is spreading rapidly among Hong Kong's gay community as research indicates a rise in the number of men having unsafe sex, officials said Tuesday.

Profiling of the virus acquired by HIV sufferers has revealed a cluster of cases with similar genetic sequencing which has risen from 34 to 53 cases since October last year.

Department of Health expert Wong Ka-hing urged people with a history of unprotected sex to have HIV tests, saying the findings suggested 'rapid local HIV transmission' among gay men in the city of 6.9 million.

Hong Kong recorded 91 new cases of HIV in the first quarter of 2007, bringing the total number of infections to 3,289. Twenty new cases of AIDS were diagnosed, raising the total since 1985 to 875.

The detection of clusters of cases among gay men in Hong Kong follows regional findings that the proportion of gay men in Asia contracting HIV has risen sharply in recent years.

The trend suggests that safe-sex practices and condom use among the gay community have eased since the HIV epidemic peaked in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Gay Bridal Shop Opens in Barcelona

Gay men planning to get married in Spain now can pamper themselves before the big day thanks to a luxury bridal shop recently opened just for them.

The shop, called By, offers made-to-measure suits—some of which are inlaid with 22-carat gold—as well as rings and other accessories created by a collection of Spanish designers.

Owner Santiago Porrero told The Independent: "We saw there was a gap in the market for gay men though we are not only aiming for homosexuals. It is called By because each person can have a unique creation by one of our designers. There will only be one of these suits in the world."

If only gay marriages were permitted here...in Australia.

I tried to obtain the website for "By" but could not at the time of posting.

US pop singer Britney Spears says she "truly hit rock bottom" during a stint in rehabilitation this year but told fans she did not blame her behaviour on alcohol or depression.

"I was like a bad kid running around with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder)," she wrote on her website, www.britneyspears.com. "I confess, I was so lost."

"I think the whole problem was letting too many people into my life," the 25-year-old singer said. "You never know another person's intentions or what another person wants."

American support of gays up significantly

American acceptance of gay rights is at its highest level in 30 years, according to a national poll released Tuesday. A Gallup Poll shows that 59% of Americans believe that “homosexual relations between consenting adults" should be legal.
This question, which is part of the Gallup Poll’s annual Values and Beliefs survey carried out each May, has been asked every year since 1977, when only 43% responded affirmatively.
Support for same-sex marriage has also increased to an all-time high. Although supporters are still the minority, 46% believe marriages between same-sex couples should be legally validated.
The most support comes in relation to equality in the workplace, with 89% believing that gays “should have equal rights in terms of job opportunities.” (The Advocate)

'Gay' tubbies face government ban

Poland's conservative government took its drive to curb what it sees as homosexual propaganda to the small screen on Monday, taking aim at Tinky Winky and the other Teletubbies.

Ewa Sowinska, government-appointed children rights watchdog, told a local magazine published on Monday that she was concerned the popular BBC children's show promoted homosexuality.
She said she would ask psychologists to advise if this was the case.

She also said, "I noticed (Tinky Winky) has a lady's purse, but I didn't realise he's a boy."
"At first I thought the purse would be a burden for this Teletubby ... Later I learned that this may have a homosexual undertone."

The 10-year-old Teletubbies, which features four rotund, brightly coloured characters loved by children around the world, became a target of religious conservatives after Falwell suggested Tinky Winky could be homosexual.

Gay Bar Wins Right To Out Straights

A gay bar in Melbourne has won a landmark case allowing it, for the first time in Australian history, the ability to legally refuse entry to heterosexual people.

The Peel Hotel in Melbourne’s Collingwood applied to the Victorian planning tribunal for the right to not allow entry to straight men and women on the basis of preventing “sexually based insults and violence”.

Last week the tribunal granted The Peel an exemption to the Equal Opportunity Act that allows it to prohibit heterosexuals from the venue if it wishes.

The Deputy President of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Cate McKenzie, wrote in her findings that “sometimes heterosexual groups and lesbian groups insult and deride and are even physically violent towards the gay male patrons.”

She mentioned that some women booked hens’ nights at the venue using the gay patrons of The Peel as entertainment. “To regard the gay male patrons of the venue as providing an entertainment or spectacle to be stared at, as one would at an animal at a zoo, devalues and dehumanises them.”

"It seeks to give gay men a space in which they may, without inhibition, meet, socialise and express physical attraction to each other in a non-threatening atmosphere.”

Shame ! Shame ! Shame !

RUSSIAN police last night arrested Australian-born gay activist Peter Tatchell and at least two European MPs as they tried to hold a demonstration in Moscow.

The activists were arrested by the OMON police riot squad while members of a hostile crowd punched the activists and pelted them with eggs.

One woman in the headscarf typical of devout Orthodox believers repeatedly threw water from a bottle at Mr Tatchell, who now lives in Britain, as he tried to speak.

A young man in a camouflage T-shirt then punched Mr Tatchell in the head before the activist was led away by police.

The demonstrators, appearing to number less than 100, tried to present a letter signed by 40 European MPs to the office of Moscow's Mayor, appealing against the city's ban on a march they wanted to conduct.

But police quickly grabbed about a dozen demonstrators and forced them into a bus, including Russian gay rights movement leader Nikolai Alexeyev.

[Source]

I have to say I was saddened by the News this morning yet was not surprised, as I lay in bed last night, my thoughts were with those marching, after seeing last years despicable behaviour by some I knew numbers would be small as it was inevitable that they were going to be physically attacked.

Moscow City Hall Quiet as 120 Journalists Check In For Moscow Gay Pride

With Gay Pride about to start, Moscow is surprisingly quiet. Not a single official statement has been released by Mayor of Moscow, unlike at the same time last year.
Even the weather is different – last year rain was the order of the day. Right now a sunny and hot weekend awaits the 200 or so participants attending today’s LGBT conference and who knows how many who will take part in tomorrow’s Pride March.
The next 24 hours in Moscow will be very interesting, the LGBT community world wide will wait to see just what happens.
Alexey Davydov, who is in charge of media coordination, said that this year's Pride has two direct lines for reporters.
“The phone has been ringing all the time for the last two days,” he said. “We have 120 journalists accredited from 60 different media organizations. The interest is already much bigger than last year at the same time.”

Diaz walks green carpet in Sydney

Hollywood glamour girl Cameron Diaz walked a green carpet in Sydney tonight to launch Shrek The Third, the latest in one of the most successful film franchises of all time.

She joined her on-screen husband, the much-loved green ogre himself, and the chief executive of DreamWorks Animation SKG Jeffrey Katzenberg, to promote the film which opens here nationally on June 7 but has already smashed box office records in the United States.

"It's fantastic, we couldn't be more happy," Diaz said of the film's early success after its opening weekend.

Diaz, dressed in a slight strapless dress on a chilly Sydney evening, stopped traffic passing the State Theatre twice to greet waiting fans and sign autographs.
After this weekend the film holds the record for the biggest first weekend takings for an animated feature film and has earned the third highest opening weekend income for any film when it brought in $US122 million ($149 million).

Police cordoned off part of the footpath this morning and set up a crime scene so they could forensically examine the area.

The Sydney Morning Herald quizzed local shopkeepers who said that they thought it was a drug overdose, although it’s still too early to tell the cause of death just yet.

IT'S TIME TO GO.....JOHNNY !

Yes that's right, Its time to go Johnny, you will be evicted from the Big Brother "Government" House, so no need to spend that 22 million dollars on the renovations as you wont be living there later this year.

We can only speculate how John Howard our current leader of the country will celebrate when, we the voters make him pay for some of the stupid decisions he has made in the last year. Will he leap into the air ? I think not...

John Howard today warned Coalition MP's and Senators that they face defeat at this year's election unless there is a reversal in the polls and has suggested that his leadership might be contributing to the problem.

Oh really John have you contributed to the slump in the polls!!!

In an address to the Coalition party room this morning, Mr Howard said the current polls show the Government would not just lose the election, but be annihilated.

Workplace Relations Minister Joe Hockey has conceded the Federal Government got it wrong when it introduced the Work Choices laws without proper protection for those losing benefits.

Oh yes at least they got that "RIGHT..." YOU GOT IT WRONG AND NOW IT'S TIME TO PAY THE ULTIMATE PRICE.....EVICTION!

Goodbye Johnny
Oh and on a personal level John you really should not be so anti gay, what if your son was GAY, would you not love him. It's time the Government make changes to the same sex relationship bill.
