These hateful words were written by Joseph Ratzinger, a Vatican Cardinal in 2003. 

Some 30 years before, the same author wrote a damning report called “Declaration on Certain Questions Concerning Sexual Ethics” in which he stated that the inclination toward homosexuality is “tendency toward an intrinsic moral evil, and thus the inclination itself must be seen as an objective disorder.”

In 2008, this man is now known as Pope Benedict XVI, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church who arrived on Australian soil this week to spread his message of intolerance to half a million pilgrims in Sydney for World Youth Day.

Victory for Pope protesters

Two Sydney activists have won a Federal Court challenge to special World Youth Day laws that carry $5500 fines for annoying pilgrims.

The NoToPope Coalition scored the victory when the Federal Court ruled that legislation that would have prevented its members from handing out leaflets and other items was invalid in law.

Rachel Evans, one of the activists who challenged the laws, spoke to media outside the court, calling it a “major victory”. She said that now the protesters can wear their "No To Pope"         t-shirts, they can distribute condoms and literature, and they can convey their message peacefully without fear.

Ian Thorpe About To Come Out?

He’s ditched the chlorine for cologne, the goggles for pearls and the speedos for designer knickers. Now Ian Thorpe has revealed that he’s in love.

He hasn’t told media who the person is, nor has he confirmed the gender, only referring to them in a gender neutral manner.

“There is [a special someone] but they don’t live in this country,” Thorpe told The Sunday Telegraph. He said the relationship was new and going smoothly.

So why all the secrecy? If he’s going to reveal that he’s in love, and that they don’t live in Australia, why couldn’t he have gone that one step further, and confirmed or denied the eternal question of his sexuality?

So you think you can model - Finals

On Thursday evening my Partner and I went to the finals of "So you thing you can Model" at the midnight shift in Sydney. 

Hundreds of men crowded into the nightclub to watch the finalists strut their stuff in a underwear, swimwear, and casual and formal.  Each contestant was asked a question by the judging panel, responses were varied. My two favorites were in the final 4 but failed to bring home the big one. 

Upon reflection I now understand what the judges were really looking for.. an aussie looking guy!

The winner was Nick (Great name) a volunteer surf lifesaver from North Bondi.

Matthew Mitcham our Golden Boy!

In August, diver Matthew Mitcham will become the first openly-gay Australian to compete in an Olympic Games. In many ways, Matthew Mitcham is just your regular 20-year-old gay guy.

He lives in inner Sydney, he has a boyfriend, his favourite club is Arq. He loves to watch The Simpsons, Futurama and Queer As Folk.  His favourite music is by The Presets, Kate Miller-Heidke and Missy Higgins.

But Matthew Mitcham is not your regular 20-year-old gay guy.

Not only is he an elite member of Australia’s Olympic diving team, but last month he became headline news around the world.

The reason? For being gay.

A casual remark to a journalist during an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald led to a flurry of international publicity. The Herald put Mitcham on its front page. In Britain, national daily newspaper The Independent carried an article under the headline ‘Gay diver breaks Australian sporting taboo’.

Hundreds of thousands attend Madrid Gay Pride parade

Hundreds of thousands of gays, lesbians and their supporters on Saturday took part in a colourful parade across Madrid, the capital of a country that has become a world leader in gay rights.

Equality Minister Bibiano Aido led the parade of more than 30 floats, mostly related to gay bars and other businesses, but also one devoted to the Abba-themed musical "Mamma Mia", under a hot sun and to the beat of techno and Brazilian music.

"It is a day of joy, to demand the rights of people and all citizens," said Aido.

So You Think You Can Model - Semi Finals

The Midnight Shift Nightclub here in Sydney has been looking for a Hot Boy to send to Tokyo to strut his stuff on the catwalk.  

Each week Hot Boys strut their stuff to the delight of the onlookers, then two are chosen to re-appear for the final. The final is being held this Thursday, my partner and I will be on hand with camera in hand to capture all of the spectacle.

Nadal ends Federer reign at Wimbledon

Nadal last night, defeated Federer in the final of Wimbledon, his victory at his third finals attempt was the longest final ever but he wasn't complaining, having just dethroned the king of grass, 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (8-10), 9-7.

It was delayed by rain, and then interrupted twice, finishing in near-darkness after five dramatic sets. Eventually, in four hours and 48 minutes, it was over, one of the greatest of all finals and certainly the longest.

The first Spanish man to triumph at the All England Club since Manolo Santana's breakthrough in 1966, he is also the first man since Bjorn Borg in 1980 to complete the rare French Open-Wimbledon double, adding the prestigious grasscourt major to his four on clay at Roland Garros.
