Firefighters Top ‘Most Prestigious Occupations’ List

A recent poll in the United States, conducted by Harris Interactive measuring public perceptions of 23 professions and occupations, have voted Fire Fighters at the top of the list, in the category of "very great" prestige.

Similarly in Australia Fire Fighters are regularly ranked in the top 3 respected professions with para-medics and teachers, not surprisingly politicians and used car sales persons are at the bottom.

I must admit being a fire fighter does have some benefits, but at the end of the day it's just a job, an often dirty smelly hazardous job working in environments that are very carcinogenic.
