Community Leaders Band together to improve Oxford St

On Monday night, a bunch of community leaders met to discuss the future of Sydney's Oxford Steet and ways how it could be restamped as a gay and lesbian village.

Around the table were representatives from Same Same, ACON, the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, Arq, Fag Tag, the Imperial Hotel, Dykes on Bikes, Sydney Star Observer, SX and Timeout magazine. For almost three hours the group, now known as Out On The Strip, discussed a myriad of strategies on how we can all make a huge difference by banding together.

Out On The Strip is now seeking expressions of interest from community groups who want to get involved by hosting an event on the strip in 2008.

This is exactly what our community neads in Sydney, I would love to see more colour and more events in the heart. The strip has suffered with shops closing and alcoholics sleeping on the footpath. Lets clean it up and make it ours... ps make the whole outside area a dry area close the st8 clubs.

Out On The Strip are also after some ideas so If you have any ideas please don't be shy and I'll pass them on.
